Thomasian beauty queen is first Filipina Victoria's Secret model
Sept. 13 2016, 2:33 p.m. - A THOMASIAN alumna made modeling history as the first full-blooded Filipina to model for the iconic fashion brand Victoria's Secret (VS).
Janine Tugonon, who was first runner-up in the 2012 Miss Universe, was tapped by the brand to be part of its "College Life" advertisement.
The advertisement is part of the VS Pink line, a fashion line targeted at younger, college-aged women.
Released last Sept. 6, it depicts Tugonon and other models as graduating college students giving motivational advice to college women.
"It was a fun shoot and hopefully it will lead to greater things," Tugonon said in an email to the Varsitarian.
Tugonon, who is based in the United States and managed by MSA Models, added that she was also interested in pursuing an acting career.
"I graduated pharmacy but here in [the] US, I'm full-time in modeling. I love modeling and eventually plan in venturing into acting," she said.
The beauty queen-turned-model earned her degree from the Faculty of Pharmacy in 2010. She was crowned Miss Pharmacy and Miss Thomasian Personality 2010.
Tugonon said it was her pageant stints in UST that inspired her to become a beauty queen and led her to become a model.
