UST tops licensure exam for teachers
Nov. 18, 10:20 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY remains the top-performing school in the recent Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) for the elementary level, but no Thomasian entered the Top 10 list of board passers.
UST recorded a 97.59-percent passing rate in the LET-elementary level with 81 passers out of 83 examinees, which was higher than last year’s 89.23 percent or 58 passers out of 65 examinees.
Placing behind UST were Western Visayas State University-La Paz (89.95 percent), Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (87.27 percent), Philippine Normal University-Manila (84.51 percent), and Saint Louis University (83.33 percent).
This year's national passing rate for the LET-elementary level slightly went up to 22.68 percent, as 10,243 out of 45,171 passed the exam, compared with last year's 19.58 percent with only 7,737 passers out of 39,508.
Meanwhile, the University placed fourth in the LET-secondary level with an 88.26-percent passing rate or 218 passers out of 247 examinees. Last year, only 79.57 percent or 148 out of 186 Thomasians made the cut.
Among those who passed is former Varsitarian Literary Editor Marian Leanne dela Cruz.
University of the Philippines (UP)-Los Banos (96.10 percent) was hailed top-performing school, followed by UP-Diliman (91.01 percent) and PNU-Manila (88.80 percent) in second and third place, respectively. Xavier University (85.07 percent) placed fifth, while Philippine Normal University-Agusan (81.58 percent) placed sixth.
This year’s national passing rate for the LET-secondary level also went up to 31.45 percent with 13,125 passers out of 41,729 examinees, from last year's 25.86 percent or 9,493 out of 36,174 examinees. Reden D. Madrid

UST named top-performing school in LET exams
26 November 2012, 11:06 p.m. - UST overtook UP and two other universities to become the top-performing school in the recent licensure examinations for teachers (LET) in the secondary level.
The University registered a 96.39-percent passing rate with 160 out of 166 examinees making the cut. This was a huge jump from last year’s fourth place when the University got an 88.26-percent passing rate, with 218 passers out of 247 examinees.
UST bested University of the Philippines-Diliman (96.10 percent), Philippine Normal Unversity-Manila (92.96 percent) and Xavier University (89.86 percent).
There were no Thomasians in the top 10.
This year’s national passing rate improved to 43.50 percent from last year’s 31.45 percent. Of 47,892 who took the exam this year, 20,834 passed. In 2011, 13,125 out of 41,729 examinees passed.
Meanwhile, UST slipped down one notch in the LET-elementary level list of top-performing schools.
UST got a 98.55-percent passing rate with 136 passers out of 138 examinees. Last year, the University was the No. 1 school, posting a 97.59-percent passing rate with 81 successful examinees out of 83.

Thomasians in top 10 of board exam for high school teachers
18 April 2013, 11:07 p.m. - UST IMPROVED its standing in the licensure exam for teachers (LET), placing third in the roster of top-performing schools for secondary education and producing two topnotchers.
Results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released today showed that UST had a 92.16-percent passing rate in the March LET for the secondary level, significantly higher than last year’s 86.84 percent. This year, 47 out of 51 Thomasian examinees passed the test, 43 of which were first-time examinees. In 2012, 33 of 38 examinees made the cut.
UST trailed behind University of the Philippines-Diliman (95.00 percent) and Saint Louis University (94.92 percent), which grabbed the top two spots in the roster of best-performing schools.
Leading the new batch of Thomasian teachers are Marieta Baysa, who scored 90.80 percent, and Maria Isabel Bautista, who got a 90.40-percent rating. Baysa and Bautista ranked seventh and ninth, respectively.
Thomasians did not make it to this year's top 10 list for LET-elementary, but UST's passing rate went up to 90 percent from 66.67 percent in 2012. Nine out of 10 Thomasians passed the exam, compared with two out of three examinees in 2012.
Talisay City College was the only top-performing school, scoring a 90.24-percent passing rate with 74 out of 82 students hurdling the exam. It was the only school that met the PRC requirement of a passing rate of at least 80 percent and a minimum 50 examinees.
The national passing rate for LET-elementary slid to 27.78 percent, with only 10,310 passers out of 37,117 examinees. Last year’s passing rate was 42.46 percent, with 13,925 passers out of 32,798 examinees.

A total of 149 Thomasians took the board exams this year, two of them landing in the top 10.
With a score of 88.40 percent, UST's Katrin Lourdes Torre shared the ninth spot with Hazel Marie Biscocho (Cebu Normal University), Maria Chona Hular (Bicol University-Daraga), Jeffrey Javarez (Palawan State University-Puerto Princesa), Jemalyn Rose Mangao (Limay Polytechnic College), April Rose Nualla (Cebu Institute of Technology), Ana Marie Pagaringan (Tarlac College of Agriculture), Renally Bianca Pariñas (Southville International School and Colleges), and Vanessa Dawn Tortocion (Kabankalan Catholic College).
Belle Nicolle Chan, who had a score of 88.20 percent, shared the 10th spot with 12 others.
Trailing UST were Bohol Island State University-Tagbiliran with a 95.95-percent passing rate (71 out of 74 examinees), and West Visayas State University-La Paz with a 94.76-percent passing rate (199 out of 210 examinees).
Last year, the University settled for the second spot, posting a 98.55-percent passing rate with 136 passers out of 138 examinees.
The national passing rate for the LET-elementary level dropped to 31.18 percent (19,384 out of 62,160 examinees) from last year’s 49.29 percent (25,136 out of 50,997 examinees).
In the LET-secondary level, UST slid to fourth place from the top rank last year but managed to get two spots in the top 10, including first place.
The University's passing rate slipped to 88.82 percent with 151 out of 170 Thomasian examinees making the cut, from last year's 96.39 percent.
Leading this year’s batch of Thomasian secondary-level teachers is Dale Aldrinn Pradel with a score of 93 percent.
Thomasian Mark Philip Ragos also shared the ninth spot with April Joy Diane Galicia of Wesleyan University Philippines-Cabanatuan City after getting identical scores of 91.20 percent.
Last year, no Thomasian entered the top 10 for both the elementary and secondary LET.
