Medicine second in board

UST WAS named the second top performing school in the Physician licensure exams after gaining a 94?percent passing rate last January, unchanged from the same period last year.

Thomasian Charlene Khe Haw emerged sixth among a total of 621 successful examinees, posting an 84.71?percent score in the board exams. Thirty-two of the 34 Thomasian examinees passed.

Marie Jo Cabanting of the Far Eastern University - Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation topped this year’s board with a score of 85.42 percent.

UST ranked second to St. Luke’s College of Medicine, Perpetual Help College of Manila, Cebu Doctors University, and Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao, which all tied at first place with 100 percent passing rates each.

Medicine Dean Ma. Graciela Gonzaga noted that the January exam was the “off-season” for Thomasian examinees.

“Mostly, those who took the [January] test were not regular students, some were even repeaters. Some also took it that time for health or family reasons,” Gonzaga said.

The University got a 94-percent passing rate in the February 2008 medicine board exams. Thomasians Kenneth Liu Dy and Clarito Demaala III made it to the top 10, placing third and ninth, respectively. Adrienne Jesse A. Maleficio

UST, pumangalawa sa Physician board

Agosto 18, 7:21 a.m. - BUMABA sa ikalawang puwesto ang UST sa listahan ng top-performing schools sa katatapos na Physician Licensure Examination ngayong buwan, ngunit ito naman ang nagtala ng pinakamaraming bilang ng mga bagong doctor mula sa isang unibersidad.

Nagtala ng 99.73 passing rate ang Unibersidad matapos pumasa ang 371 Tomasino na kumuha ng exam. Isa lang mula sa UST ang hindi pumasa.

Samantala, tatlong Tomasino ang nakapasok sa top 10—mas kaunti kumpara sa bilang noong nakaraang taon.

Pumangatlo sa mga topnotchers si Sharlene Marie Lao (87.92 porsiyento), kapantay ang isang estudyante mula sa University of the Philippines-Manila, habang nasungit nina Caroline Bernadette King Kay (87.58%) at Mark Lester Sy (87.50%) ang ika-anim at ika-pitong puwesto.

Noong nakaraang taon, hinirang na top-performing school ang UST at lima sa mga pumasa ang nakapasok sa top 10, kasama ang nangunang si Chitra Punjabi. Ang passing rate noong nakaraang taon ay 99 porsiyento, kung saan 361 mula sa 365 ang mga Tomasinong pumasa sa licensure exam.

Nagtala ng 100 porsiyento ang mga nangunang top-performing schools ngayong taon, ngunit ‘di hamak na mas kaunti ang bilang ng mga kumuha ng pagsusulit mula sa mga paaralang ito. Ang Cebu Institute of Medicine ay mayroon lamang 50 examinees, habang ang UP-Manila ay mayroon lamang 144.

UST posts perfect passing rate in Med boards

March 2, 12:30 a.m. - THE UNIVERSITY maintained a 100-percent passing rate in the recent licensure exams for physicians, but no Thomasian entered the Top 10 list of topnotchers.

All 24 Thomasian examinees passed this year’s “off-season” physician board exams. Last year, UST also posted a perfect score, with 26 Thomasians making the cut.

Last year, Thomasian Censon Lemuel Cabanas placed sixth with an average score of 84.92. In 2010, UST's Charlene Rose Haw also got the sixth place.

No school met the requirement set by the Professional Regulation Commission to be proclaimed as a top-performing school -- at least 80 percent passing rate with a minimum of 50 examinees.

The national passing rate for this year’s board exams was 52.53 percent (520 passers out of 990 examinees) -- slightly lower than last year’s 53.25 percent (655 out of 1,230). Reden D. Madrid

Mga Tomasino, nanguna sa board exams ng medisina

31 Agosto 2012, 10:36 p.m. - PINANGUNAHAN ng apat na Tomasino ang mga pumasa sa katatapos na physician licensure examination, habang nanatili naman sa ikalawang puwesto ang Unibersidad sa listahan ng mga paaralang nakakuha ng matataas na marka.

Nagtala ng 98.71 porsiyentong passing rate ang Unibersidad matapos pumasa ang 382 sa 387 na Tomasinong kumuha ng pagsusulit sa medisina, mas mababa kaysa sa 99.73 porsiyento noong nakaraang taon kung saan 371 sa 372 Tomasino ang pumasa.

Pumangalawa si Alexander Manguba, Jr. (89.08 porsiyento), na sinundan naman ni Nellowe Candelario (89 porsiyento) sa ikatlong puwesto.

Naghati naman sa ika-walong puwesto sina Patricia Amolenda at Mar Angelo Carrasco na parehong nagkamit ng 87.67 porsiyento, kapantay ang isang mag-aaral ng University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center.

Samantala, hinirang na top-performing school ang University of the Philippines-Manila matapos magtala ng 99.35 porsiyentong passing rate. Ngunit kumpara sa UST, wala pa sa kalahati ang bilang ng mga kumuha ng pagsusulit mula sa UP-Manila, kung saan 153 sa 154 ang pumasa.

Mas mataas ang national passing rate ngayong taon sa 78.8 porsiyento, kumpara sa 75.32 porsiyento noong nakaraang taon.

27 Agosto 2013, 11:23 p.m. - NANATILING pangalawa ang UST sa listahan ng top-performing schools sa katatapos na physician licensure exams.

Nagtala ng 99.53-porsiyentong passing rate ang Unibersidad, kung saan 427 sa 429 na kumuha ng pagsusulit ang pumasa, batay sa resultang inilabas ng Professional Regulation Commission.

Mas mataas ito kumpara sa 98.71-porsiyentong passing rate (382 nakapasa sa 387 na kumuha ng pagsusulit) noong nakaraang taon.

Apat na paaralan ang nanguna sa listahan ng top-performing schools matapos makakuha ng 100-porsiyentong passing rate: University of the Philippines-Manila, Ateneo de Manila University School of Medicine and Public Health-Pasig, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila at Cebu Institute of Medicine.

UST pa rin ang mayroong pinakamaraming estudyanteng kumuha ng pagsusulit at may pinakamaraming pumasa.

Dalawang Tomasino ang nakapasok sa top 10. Nasa ikaapat na pwesto si Timothy Lee Tang Lee Say (88.5 porsiyento) habang nasa ikapitong puwesto naman si Donn Rommel Bernabe (88.17 porsiyento), kapantay si Alvin Christian Borbon ng Cebu Institute of Medicine.

Nanguna naman si Blake Warren Ang (89.42 porsiyento) ng Cebu Institute of Medicine sa lahat ng kumuha ng pagsusulit ngayong taon.

Ito ang ikatlong taon ng Unibersidad bilang pangalawang top-performing school. Huli itong naging top performing school noong 2010 nang magkamit ito ng 99-porsiyentong passing rate.

Tumaas rin sa 82.95 porsiyento ang national passing rate matapos pumasa ang 1,834 sa 2,211 na kumuha ng pagsusulit, mula sa 78.8 porsiyento o 1,684 na pumasa sa 2,137 na kumuha ng pagsusulit noong nakaraang taon. Gena Myrtle P. Terre

UST Medicine dominates board exams

5 September 2014, 12:53 a.m. - THE UNIVERSITY reigned supreme in the August physician licensure examinations, with six Thomasians landing in the top 10, including first place.

UST posted a 98.92-percent passing rate this year, with 460 passers out of 465 examinees, data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed. This was slightly lower than last year’s 99.53 percent, wherein 427 passed out of 429 examinees.

UST ranked as the second top-performing school, after the Cebu Institute of Medicine which registered a 100-percent passing rate.

Leading the new batch of Thomasian physicians is topnotcher Eric Royd Talavera, who was tied with Raymond Martin Li of the Cebu Institute of Medicine at No. 1. Both had a score of 89.58 percent.

Thomasians Jessica Mae Sanchez and Lean Angelo Silverio shared the fourth spot with Mairre James Gaddi of the University of the Philippines-Manila, obtaining identical scores of 89.25 percent.

Other Thomasians who made it in the top 10 list of passers were Kevin Bryan Lo (88.75 percent) at seventh place, Lorayne Ann Chua (88.33 percent) at ninth place, and Ryan Anthony Agas (88.25 percent) at 10th place. Among those who passed was former Sci-Tech editor Francis James Gatdula.

This was the fourth consecutive year that the University placed second in the roster of top-performing schools for the physician board exams. UST last ranked first in 2010 with a 99-percent passing rate.

27 Agosto, 205, 11:37 am -- IKALIMA ang UST sa listahan ng top-performing schools sa katatapos na Physician Licensure Examination ngayong Agosto, habang limang Tomasino naman ang kabilang sa 10 na may pinakamatataas na marka.

Nagtamo ang Unibersidad ng 98.31 porsiyentong passing rate kung saan 408 mula sa 415 na kumuha ng pagsusulit ang pumasa.

Bahagya itong mas mababa kumpara sa nakaraang taon kung kailan itinanghal ang UST bilang ikalawang top-performing school matapos makakuha ng passing rate na 98.92 porsiyento (460 nakapasa sa 465 na kumuha ng pagsusulit).

Gayunpaman, pinakamarami pa rin ang bilang ng mga bagong duktor na galing sa UST.

Nanguna sa listahan ng top-performing schools ngayong taon ang Cebu Institute of Medicine at University of the Philippines-Manila na pawang nagtamo ng 100-porsyentong passing rate.

Limang Tomasino ang nakapasok sa listahan ng 10 nakakuha ng pinakamatataas na marka. Pumangalawa si Jan Christian Feliciano (90 porsyento), ikalima si George Michael Sosuan (89.25), ika-anim si Ana Bianca Peralta (89.17), ikapito si Thomas Vincent Vergara (89.08) at pangsampu naman si Lester Bryan Co (88.83).

Nanguna si Andrew Tiu mula sa Cebu Institute of Medicine sa markang 90.67 porsyento.

Tumaas sa 85.28 porsyento ang pambansang passing rate para sa taong ito kung saan 2,491 mula sa 2,921 na kumuha ng pagsusulit ang pumasa, kumpara sa 81.25 porsyento o 2,218 na pumasa mula sa 2,730 na kumuha ng pagsusulit noong nakaraang taon.

UST posts lower passing rate in March 2016 physician board exams

March 17, 2016, 11:00a.m. - WITH ONLY a few examinees, UST registered a lower passing rate in the March 2016 physician licensure examinations.

Thirty-three out of 41 UST examinees passed the exams, or an 80.49-percent passing rate, data from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was lower than last year’s 95-percent passing rate, in which 19 passed out of 20 examinees from UST.

Thomasian medicine graduates normally take the physician licensure examinations every September, along with other top medical schools.

Al Patrick Alajas of Southwestern University topped the March 2016 board exams with a score 88.67 percent.

Far Eastern University (FEU)-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation was again the top-performing school after posting an 80.53-percent passing rate. Ninety-one passed out of 113 examinees from FEU.

The national passing rate declined to 46.26 percent, with just 483 examinees passing out of 1,044. Last year’s passing rate was of 71.3 percent, with 594 making the cut out of 832 examinees. Roy Abrahmn D.R. Narra

Thomasian tops medicine board, 5 others in top 10

Sept. 21 2016, 10:48 p.m. - SIX THOMASIANS grabbed places in the top 10 of the September 2016 physician licensure exams, while UST ranked sixth on the list of top-performing schools.

UST recorded a 94.84-percent passing rate with 423 examinees passing out of 446, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was lower than last year’s 98.31 percent, wherein 408 passed out of 415 UST examinees.

Still, UST produced the most number of doctors this year, led by Jeri Charlotte Albano who topped this year’s exams after posting a 89.50-percent passing rate. Edwin Mark Chiong ranked second with a score of 88.75 percent.

Other Thomasians who placed in the top 10 included Jaffar Carag Pineda (88.33 percent) and Kevin Michael Yu (88.25) who landed on the 7th and 8th spots, respectively. Lorenz Kristoffer Daga and Beverly Lynne Ong placed 10th with a score 88.08 percent.

Thomasians dominate top 10 of September 2017 physician board exams

THOMASIANS ruled this year’s licensure examinations for physicians, with six Medicine graduates making it to the top 10.

UST graduates occupied the first, fourth, fifth, eighth, ninth and 10th places. Vincent Edouard Anthony Gullas led the latest batch of physicians with a score of 90.50 percent.

The University’s passing rate rose to 97.10 percent, or 468 out of 482 examinees, from last year’s 94.84 percent or 423 out of 446 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.

UST graduate Marc Vincent Barcelona secured the fourth spot with a score of 89.83 percent, while Ana Erycka Elaine Peralta placed fifth with 89.67 percent.

Stephanie Marie Seno bagged eighth place with a score of 89.42 percent, Simon Go placed ninth with 89.33 percent,and Kelvin Ken Yu clinched the 10th spot with a score of 89.25 percent.

The Cebu Institute of Medicine and Saint Luke’s College of Medicine were hailed as the top-performing schools after after registering 100-percent passing rates.

UST placed fifth on the list of top-performing schools.

The national passing rate rose to 82.19 percent, or 3,340 out of 4,064 examinees, from last year’s 78.46 percent, or 2,899 passers of 3,695 examinees.

UST 2nd in med boards, 3 Thomasians in top 10

THE UNIVERSITY ranked second among the top-performing schools in the September 2018 licensure examinations for physicians, with three Thomasians landing in the top 10.

Ernest Matthew Paggabao led the newest batch of Thomasian physicians, grabbing the third spot with a score of 90.58 percent.

UST graduate Luisa Encarnacion secured the fifth spot with a score of 90.08 percent.

Thomasian Tristan Paolo Madrigal placed seventh after scoring 89.92 percent.

The Cebu Institute of Medicine was the top-performing school anew after registering a 99.3-percent passing rate, or 149 out of 150 examinees.
