UST slips in architecture board exams

14 June 2012, 10:46 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY posted a slightly lower passing rate in the recent licensure examination for architects, but five Thomasians entered the Top 10 list.

UST recorded a 75-percent passing rate this year as 201 out of 268 Thomasians passed the test last June 8 and 10. This was slightly lower than last year’s 78.79 percent, in which 208 out of 264 examinees made the cut.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported that among 201 passers from UST, 175 were first-time examinees.

Leading the batch of new Thomasian architects is Saul Alexander Marcelo, who placed third nationwide with a score of 83.4 percent.

Other Thomasians in the top 10 were Lance Andrew Olegario (82.6 percent), Terrence Jeffrey Wang (82.3 percent), Maria Adelle Elma (82 percent), and Dio Angelo de la Cruz (81.9 percent), who placed sixth, seventh, ninth, and 10th, respectively. Last year, there were only three topnotchers from UST.

The University of San Carlos, which had an 84-percent passing rate (42 out of 50 examinees) emerged as this year’s only top-performing school. Last year, no school made it to the list of top-performing schools.

The national passing rate also went down to 50.69 percent, with only 987 of 1,947 examinees passing the test. Last year’s passing rate was 52.68 percent, equivalent to 1,082 passers out of 2,054 examinees. Yuji Vincent B. Gonzales

Five Thomasians in top 10 of architecture board exams

06 February 2013, 6:28 p.m. - THE University posted a higher passing rate in the recent licensure examinations for architects, with five Thomasians entering the top 10 list.

Data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed UST recorded a 79.9-percent passing rate as 174 out of 220 examinees made the cut. This was a few notches higher from last year’s 75-percent passing rate in which 201 out of 268 examinees passed.

Among the 174 who passed, 154 were first-time examinees.

Leading the new batch of Thomasian architects is Earlwin Jerome Tion Tee, who placed second nationwide with a score of 86.5 percent.

Other Thomasians who entered the top 10 were Jose Crisanto Cruz Estrella III and Mary Grace Yu Te (85.10 percent), Jose Ignacio Quebral Faustino (84.40 percent), and Nelson Arayata Roquero Jr. (83.70 percent), who grabbed the fourth, sixth and 10th places, respectively.

Meanwhile, no university was named the top-performing school in this year’s examinations. The PRC requires a passing rate of at least 80 percent and a minimum of 50 examinees to be named a top-performing school.

UST posts 74-percent passing rate in Architecture board exams

14 June 2013, 11:13 p.m. - THE University posted a slightly lower passing rate in the recent licensure examination for architects, with one Thomasian entering the top 10.

UST recorded a 73.79-percent passing rate this year as 152 out of 206 Thomasians passed the exams last June 7 and 9, figures from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed. This was a tad lower than last year’s 75 percent, in which 201 out of 268 Thomasian examinees made the cut.

Among the 152 examinees this year, 130 were first-time takers. Leading the new batch of Thomasian architects is Patrick Andrew Tanhuanco, who placed third nationwide with a score of 85 percent. Last year, five Thomasians entered the top 10.

No school qualified for the list of top-performing schools this year. The PRC requires a passing rate of at least 80 percent and a minimum of 50 examinees to be named a top-performing school. The University of San Carlos was the top-performing school last year.

Former Varsitarian Features writer Alma Maria Sarmiento and former artist Fritzie Marie Amar were among those who passed the exams.

UST posts 79-percent passing rate in Archi board exams

24 January 2014, 8:38 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY recorded a slightly lower passing rate in the recent licensure examinations for architects, with only three Thomasians entering the top 10 list of passers.

UST posted a 78.71-percent passing rate with 122 passers out of 155 Thomasian examinees making the cut, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was a tad lower than last year’s 79.9 percent, wherein 174 passed out of 220 examinees.

Among the 122 passers this year, 99 were first-time takers.

Leading this year’s batch of new Thomasian architects is Khimberlyn Soriano, who landed on the fourth spot with a score of 84.1 percent.

Other Thomasians in the top 10 are fifth-placer Rodney Aaron Zheng (83.9 percent) and Jepram Rey Villafranca, who shared the sixth spot with Aldrin Cuarto of the University of the Philippines-Diliman with identical scores of 83.8 percent.

Last year, five Thomasians made it to the top 10.

Among those who passed were former Varsitarian managing editor John Earnest Jose and former photographer Karla Mides Toledo.

The Mapua Institute of Technology-Manila emerged as the top-performing school this year after recording an 82-percent passing rate, equivalent to 41 passers out of 50 examinees.The PRC requires at least an 80-percent passing rate and a minimum of 50 examinees to be declared a top-performing school.

UST places second in Archi boards

19 June 2014, 10:00 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY ranked second in the recent architecture licensure examinations, which saw two Thomasians entering the top 10.

UST posted an 81.89-percent passing rate, with 199 successful examinees out of 243, results released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) earlier today showed.

This was higher than last year’s 73.79 percent, wherein 152 passed out of 206 examinees. The University of San Carlos was named the top-performing school this year, after it got a 90-percent passing rate.

The Cebu university had 45 passers out of 50 examinees. The PRC requires at least an 80-percent passing rate and a minimum of 50 examinees to be declared a top-performing school.

Leading the new batch of Thomasian architects is Kenneth Guarino, who placed seventh with a score of 84.60 percent.

He shared the spot with Karla May Gallardo of Baguio's Saint Louis University. Another Thomasian, Marie Ashley Mendoza, landed on eighth place with a score 84.40 percent.

Last year, only one Thomasian made it to the top 10. The national passing rate went up to 61.01 percent, with 1,100 successful examinees out of 1,803.

Jan. 29, 2015, 11:15 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY reigned as the only top-performing school in the January 2015 licensure examination for architects, with a Thomasian proclaimed the topnotcher and three others landing in the top 10.

UST recorded an 83.42-percent passing rate or 161 passers out of 193 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.

This was higher than last year’s 78.71 percent, wherein 122 passed out of 155 examinees.

Topnotcher Christian Reyes led the new batch of Thomasian architects with a score of 84.80 percent.

Thomasians Andre Nicolas Alcantara and Shane Ann Estaris were tied at sixth place after scoring 82.70 percent, while Francis Michael Padua placed eight with a score of 82.5 percent.

Last year, Mapua Institute of Technology was the only top-performing school. PRC requires a minimum 80 percent passing rate and at least 50 examinees to be declared a top-performing school.

UST tops architecture board exams



June 20, 2015, 11:31 a.m. - THE UNIVERSITY emerged as the top-performing school in the recent architecture licensure exams, with three Thomasians in the top 10, including this year’s topnotcher.


UST recorded an 88.74-percent passing rate or 197 passers out of 222 examinees, higher than last year’s 81.89 percent or 199 passers out of 243 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed.


Last year, UST placed second behind the University of San Carlos.


Thomasian Christian Lyle La Madrid led this year’s batch of architects, with a score of 85.90 percent. Other Thomasians who made it to the top 10 were Christian Salandanan (84.80 percent) at fifth place and Bianca Mari Villamayor (84.20 percent) at sixth place. Former Varsitarian Circle writer Christopher Enriquez was among the passers.


The national passing rate stood at 61.15 percent (1,201 passers out of 1,964 examinees), almost the same as last year’s 61.01 percent (1,100 passers out of 1,803 examinees). Jerome P. Villanueva

UST ranks 1st anew in architecture board exams

February 5, 2016, 9:05p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY again topped the January licensure examination for architects, with two Thomasians landing on the top 10 list.

The University posted an 86.08-percent passing rate with 167 passing the test out of 194 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.

Last year, UST was also the lone top-performing school in the January architecture board exams, with an 83.42-percent passing rate. Two Thomasians secured spots in the top 10 last year including Christian Reyes who landed first place.

This year, Thomasian Czarina Bumagat placed seventh with a score of 81 percent, sharing the spot with Christine Vicentillo of University of San Carlos. UST's Erik Cajulis landed on the eighth spot with a score of 80.70 percent.

Former Varsitarian photography editor John Daniel Hirro was among those who passed this year's exam.

2 Thomasians in top 10 of June 2016 architecture board exams

June 29, 2016, 10:58p.m. - TWO THOMASIANS made it to the top 10 of the June architecture licensure examinations, even as the University recorded a lower passing rate this year.

Leading the new batch of architects were Thomasians Jeff McDaniel Yu (first place, 84 percent) and William Silvestre (eighth place, 80.90 percent).

The University posted a 75.13-percent passing rate, with 145 Thomasians making the cut out of 193 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was lower than last year’s 88.74 percent, wherein 197 passed out of 222 examinees.

Technological University of the Philippines-Manila was declared the sole top-performing school. It recorded a passing rate of 86.79 percent, with 46 passers out of 53 examinees. UST was the top-performing school last year.

THE UNIVERSITY remained as the only top-performing school in the January 2017 licensure examination for architects, with three Thomasians landing in the top 10.

UST posted an 81.75-percent passing rate, with 112 Thomasians making the cut out of 137 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed.

This was lower than last year’s 86.08 percent, wherein 167 passed out of 194 examinees.

Leading the new batch of Thomasian architects are Jaime Miguel Recto and Justin David Tan who shared the seventh place with a score of 81.10 percent.

Camile Jicelle Cuevas placed ninth with a score of 80.80 percent, along with Marvin Zandro Reabad of Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Manila.

Luiz Marko Silang of the University of the Philippines- Diliman topped this year’s exams with a score of 83.70 percent.

The national passing rate rose to 57.62 percent, with 919 making the cut of 1,595 examinees. Last year’s passing rate was 55.66 percent, with 866 passing the test out of 1,556 examinees.

UST tops June 2017 architecture board exams

THE UNIVERSITY emerged as the sole top-performing school in the June 2017 architecture licensure examinations, with a Thomasian landing in the top 10 list of passers.

UST’s passing rate went up to 83.26 percent, with 184 making the cut out of 221 examinees, results from the Professional Regulation Commission showed. This was significantly higher compared with last year’s 75.13 percent.

Thomasian Carmela Dawn Linarez placed seventh in the exams with an 82.40-percent score.

Jefferson Ventura from Saint Louis University ranked first in the exams with a score of 84.70 percent.

The national passing rate went down to 55.62 percent or 1,490 out of 2,679 examinees. Last year’s passing rate was 55.89 percent or 1,243 out of 2,224 examinees.
