UST slips in architecture board exams
14 June 2012, 10:46 p.m. - THE UNIVERSITY posted a slightly lower passing rate in the recent licensure examination for architects, but five Thomasians entered the Top 10 list.
UST recorded a 75-percent passing rate this year as 201 out of 268 Thomasians passed the test last June 8 and 10. This was slightly lower than last year’s 78.79 percent, in which 208 out of 264 examinees made the cut.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) reported that among 201 passers from UST, 175 were first-time examinees.
Leading the batch of new Thomasian architects is Saul Alexander Marcelo, who placed third nationwide with a score of 83.4 percent.
Other Thomasians in the top 10 were Lance Andrew Olegario (82.6 percent), Terrence Jeffrey Wang (82.3 percent), Maria Adelle Elma (82 percent), and Dio Angelo de la Cruz (81.9 percent), who placed sixth, seventh, ninth, and 10th, respectively. Last year, there were only three topnotchers from UST.
The University of San Carlos, which had an 84-percent passing rate (42 out of 50 examinees) emerged as this year’s only top-performing school. Last year, no school made it to the list of top-performing schools.
The national passing rate also went down to 50.69 percent, with only 987 of 1,947 examinees passing the test. Last year’s passing rate was 52.68 percent, equivalent to 1,082 passers out of 2,054 examinees. Yuji Vincent B. Gonzales

Five Thomasians in top 10 of architecture board exams
06 February 2013, 6:28 p.m. - THE University posted a higher passing rate in the recent licensure examinations for architects, with five Thomasians entering the top 10 list.
Data from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed UST recorded a 79.9-percent passing rate as 174 out of 220 examinees made the cut. This was a few notches higher from last year’s 75-percent passing rate in which 201 out of 268 examinees passed.
Among the 174 who passed, 154 were first-time examinees.
Leading the new batch of Thomasian architects is Earlwin Jerome Tion Tee, who placed second nationwide with a score of 86.5 percent.
Other Thomasians who entered the top 10 were Jose Crisanto Cruz Estrella III and Mary Grace Yu Te (85.10 percent), Jose Ignacio Quebral Faustino (84.40 percent), and Nelson Arayata Roquero Jr. (83.70 percent), who grabbed the fourth, sixth and 10th places, respectively.
Meanwhile, no university was named the top-performing school in this year’s examinations. The PRC requires a passing rate of at least 80 percent and a minimum of 50 examinees to be named a top-performing school.

UST recorded a 73.79-percent passing rate this year as 152 out of 206 Thomasians passed the exams last June 7 and 9, figures from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) showed. This was a tad lower than last year’s 75 percent, in which 201 out of 268 Thomasian examinees made the cut.
Among the 152 examinees this year, 130 were first-time takers. Leading the new batch of Thomasian architects is Patrick Andrew Tanhuanco, who placed third nationwide with a score of 85 percent. Last year, five Thomasians entered the top 10.
No school qualified for the list of top-performing schools this year. The PRC requires a passing rate of at least 80 percent and a minimum of 50 examinees to be named a top-performing school. The University of San Carlos was the top-performing school last year.
Former Varsitarian Features writer Alma Maria Sarmiento and former artist Fritzie Marie Amar were among those who passed the exams.
